Mark Hughes' men appeared to be cruising to maximum points after three first-half goals seemingly put Stoke in complete command. Peter Crouch opened the scoring after 19 seconds before Bojan Krkic and Jonathan Walters both netted to leave Arsene Wenger's men facing a chastening defeat. However, shortly after a disallowed Bojan effort Arsenal gave themselves hope by pulling a goal back through Santi Cazorla's 68th-minute penalty. Aaron Ramsey made it 3-2 two minutes later with a stunning volley to set up a grandstand finish. But the dismissal of defender Calum Chambers for a second yellow card left Arsenal with too much to do as Stoke held on to leave Wenger's men still waiting for a first win at the Britannia Stadium since February 2010.
Liverpool were unable to break down Sunderland as the two sides shared a 0-0 draw at Anfield. Brendan Rodgers' side came into the encounter buoyed by back-to-back victories over Stoke and Leicester City but fell short of making it three consecutive league wins for the first time this season. Captain Steven Gerrard was back on the Liverpool bench, replaced by Philippe Coutinho who struggled to provide the creative spark the Reds needed. It was the visitors who arguably had the better of the chances through Wes Brown and Connor Wickham.
Charlie Austin scored and was sent off as Queens Park Rangers beat Burnley 2-0 in a crucial match at the lower end of the table. The former Burnley striker fired home his eighth goal of the season in the 74th minute to help lift the hosts out of the relegation zone, but saw red for a second booking just two minutes later. Leroy Fer had given the home side the advantage early in the second half, before the in-form Austin sealed the victory. Sean Dyche's men piled on the pressure in an attempt to salvage a point, but QPR defended stoically, with Robert Green and Richard Dunne in inspired form. Harry Redknapp's side are unbeaten in four at Loftus Road as they ended Burnley's four-match unbeaten streak, with the visitors remaining in the relegation zone.
Tottenham Hotspur were also held to a goalless draw by Crystal Palace at White Hart Lane on Saturday as the hosts were left to rue a lack of cutting edge. Spurs were looking to win back-to-back home matches in the Barclays Premier League for the first time this season, but failed to break down a resolute Palace backline and were fortunate not to fall behind late on when substitute Jason Puncheon rattled the crossbar.
Graham Dorrans missed a first-half penalty as Hull City and West Bromwich Albionextended their respective winless runs in a goalless stalemate. Alan Irvine's side travelled to the KC Stadium after four consecutive defeats and passed up a great chance to end that sequence when Allan McGregor saved Dorrans' spot-kick after just 10 minutes. Hull were unable to punish the West Brom midfielder by securing all three points and are back in the relegation zone after extended their streak without a victory to eight matches.
